The WPML core plugin turns WordPress multilingual. Choose your site languages, configure URL for translated content, and pick your translation mode.

Версия 5.2.1-beta.4 beta

  • Sites with a domain per language no longer lose their site key when WPML revalidates it from a background or REST request
  • Fixed translated category archives, including WooCommerce product categories, redirecting to themselves in a loop (too many redirects) on hosts that limit large database queries
  • Page builders: a served configuration entry that names a field key now adjusts that field only, not another field with the same value
  • Fixed automatic translation staying stuck on a newly registered site when its first connection to our translation system did not complete: WPML now retries the connection and records why it failed
  • Sticky Links: internal links in a translated product's short description stay permalinks instead of page-id links
  • Translate Everything no longer leaves a post stuck as waiting for translator with no job when an automatic send is interrupted, and posts already stuck are sent again by an hourly pass
  • Fixed a PHP warning "Undefined array key 2" logged for translators and administrators when a plugin or theme checked a post capability without naming a post
  • Fixed saving large Elementor pages on sites with big media libraries ending in a server timeout, caused by WPML looking up every image of the page again on each save
  • Language Switcher: every switcher on a page now has its own accessible name, so pages with two switchers pass the WCAG landmark-uniqueness check, and the wpml_ls_aria_label filter lets a site set each switcher's name itself
  • WPML no longer rewrites its dependencies record on every Plugins screen visit, and the 'WPML Update is Incomplete' notice no longer disappears from that screen
  • Pages migrated from Divi 4 to Divi 5 no longer open in the Advanced Translation Editor as untranslated when their translations were published
  • Fixed automatic translations of some languages reaching our translation system as translations into the site's default language when those languages were mapped to it; such mappings are removed on update
  • Automatic translations of taxonomy terms that WordPress refuses to save now say why in the job log.
  • The WordPress editor links for a new or existing translation are now full admin URLs, so tools that read them outside wp-admin open the right screen.
  • Two unit tests no longer depend on the order the test suite runs them in.
  • Cleaning up an empty block widget string package no longer ends with a fatal error when the package is passed as an object.
  • (internal) tests: a sitepress tier-2 test no longer renders the language switcher from an earlier test's query.
  • (internal) tests: merge the sitepress test directories whose names differed only by letter case, so wpml-core checks out cleanly on macOS and Windows; a pipeline gate refuses such a pair from now on
  • Jobs waiting to be sent again after a failed send now all go out during one visit to the WordPress admin, instead of a few at a time on each page view.
  • Re-opening a completed translation a second time in the Advanced Translation Editor delivers the edit
  • WooCommerce Multilingual: the product-page currency switcher no longer uses WooCommerce's product class, which made themes such as OceanWP take the switcher for the product (the mini-cart did not open after Add to cart)
  • Shop pages with large category menus load faster: WPML no longer reads each linked category again to build its link, and reads the menu's categories in one query

Версия 5.2.1-beta.3 beta

  • Fixed the Translation Dashboard opening the Adjust content limits dialog by itself on every page load while a content type waited for a Translate Everything review.
  • Fixed the dashboard's Receiving translations line counting jobs our translation system no longer holds (cancelled and purged, or orphaned by the site's re-registration) as translations waiting to arrive, with the alarm and the pick-up button they raised
  • Fixed a language-content removal that was refused because the language had become the site's default staying listed as still running in Removed languages; a resumed removal now records the refusal instead of finishing as if nothing was skipped
  • Menus: saving a menu no longer removes its items on sites where a term's ID and its taxonomy ID differ
  • A translation unit whose source is only punctuation or symbols, for example a lone > in a form, no longer fails the job when it comes back empty: the source is kept
  • Fixed translated Avada forms not sending their email notifications.
  • The post editor shows a page that is being sent for automatic translation as in progress instead of a failed send
  • Links in existing translations now follow pages translated later, also for content created before WPML.
  • Elementor Text Editor widgets with an empty dynamic-content setting are translated again.
  • Language Switcher block: language names and links carry lang and hreflang attributes (WCAG 2.1 3.1.2)
  • Links in a translation now follow a target page that is translated later, and a one-time background pass re-adjusts existing translations

Версия 5.2.1-beta.2 beta

  • Fixed the pause on sending translation jobs being lifted by any successful answer from our translation system, so it now holds until the block is really lifted.
  • Saving a post no longer re-resolves each of its links once per active language on every save; a save that left the content's links untouched skips that work entirely.
  • Fixed automatic translation jobs failing their word count for up to a day after a single failed read of the translation engines; a failed read is now retried on the next ten-minute retry cycle.
  • Fixed a custom widget entry in the Custom XML Configuration replacing WPML's built-in registration for the same Elementor widget, so the container's link URL stays available for translation.
  • Fixed a database error when the Posts list, the dashboard or the translations-table repair met a post with several zero-id translation rows.
  • Fixed the Elementor container's link appearing in the translation editor without the element name ("Main Content · Link URL" instead of "Main Content/Container · Link URL") when the container has no other translatable field
  • Sending content for translation with "Translate myself" no longer fails with "WPML could not count the words" when WPML cannot get the price of automatic translation; the words are counted the same way the Translations Dashboard counts them. Automatic translation that waits for that price now says so.
  • Internal: the test scenario for the translation-save anchor fix was repaired; no product change in this build
  • A translation delivered with one segment missing its translation no longer fails the whole job: that segment keeps its original text, the rest is applied, and the job log says which segment was kept.
  • Reopening a translation job that is still in progress keeps the translator's work and no longer removes the translator from the job.

Версия 5.2.1-beta.1 beta

  • Fixed: the "Fix post type assignment" cleanup now removes a corrupted translation record together with its translation status and jobs, instead of leaving them behind pointing at a record that no longer exists.
  • Translation Tasks and the Translation Dashboard show the ID of a translated item, and View on content without a public page opens the translation editor instead of a "Page not found" page.
  • Settings → AI Translation saves on sites that route our translation system through WPML's proxy, and no longer says "Saved" when our translation system refuses the site's connection.
  • Admin pages no longer wait on a check with our translation system on every load when it reports no automatic translation for your languages.
  • Saving an Elementor template on a site with many languages returns to the editor before WPML updates the translations (on PHP-FPM and LiteSpeed servers), and no longer rewrites the template's unchanged texts on every save.
  • Fixed WPML's Translations screen changing the page value other plugins read while their own admin pages load, which broke the Avada theme options page on a Blog licence.
  • Fixed WPML resending the same automatic translation jobs every ten minutes while automatic translation was paused for the account, and stopped it resending a job that keeps failing for a day.
  • A paragraph or block that holds only a shortcode or empty markup is no longer sent to translation: the translation keeps it exactly as in the original.
  • Fixed the Advanced Translation Editor offering the styling settings of GenerateBlocks containers (such as the background image and its position) as texts, which broke the container's look on translated pages.
  • Internal links in translated content keep their #anchor when the page is saved with the language name added as a parameter to URLs.
  • After a failed engine switch on the Translations dashboard, the dialog now shows the error where you are looking, next to its Save button.
  • Fixed the Classic Translation Editor save failing with "Permission denied." on servers that HTML-escape the separators of the posted form string.
  • Fixed links to product categories in translations keeping the original language's URL when the category base is translated per language, and the wpml_absolute_links_permalink_query_vars filter no longer running for links that match no rewrite rule.
  • Fixed an issue where Delete permanently in the Media Library's grid view did nothing until the image details window was closed.
  • Translation job logs now record cancelling, retrying, opening the translation editor and saving translations on the site, so Support can see whether a cancelled job's words were returned.
  • Fixed: WPML's "423 Locked" answer to an automatic-translation push that arrives while a translation save is in progress now carries a Retry-After header, so the delivering system knows when to send that one notification again instead of pausing all deliveries to the site.
  • Fixed WPBakery pages that were once opened in the block editor sending pieces of shortcode markup to translation as text, and translated pieces breaking the shortcodes of the translated page.
  • Translation job logs now show a step that runs inside another one (such as sending a job while the translation editor opens) nested under it, and no longer lose the outer step's entries.
  • Fixed translated Avada pages keeping the original image when an image element referenced it as id|size, and dropping the chosen image size when the id was swapped, with WPML Media Translation active.
  • A page-builder element holding only other shortcodes, such as a booking calendar and a spacer, no longer sends that markup for translation.
  • A page built with shortcodes that holds a block now gets every translated text of its shortcodes when its translation job is created and completed in the same request.
  • Languages: a language WPML no longer lists, such as Amharic, can now be added as a custom language even after it was added to the site once and removed.
  • Fixed: sending a large post for translation could leave a translation job that nothing could open when the write of the job's fields failed; the job is no longer kept half-written, and the send reports no job instead
  • Fixed translated custom fields losing every backslash when the translation was saved.
  • Links that blocks store in their attributes while nested inside another content block, such as a navigation submenu's own link, are now recorded and adjusted to the translated targets like other links.

Версия 5.2.0-beta.8 beta

  • Saving a page with Translate Everything on no longer waits for the automatic translation jobs to be sent; they are sent right after the save.
  • Fixed an untranslated page at the root of the site redirecting to a page with the same slug deeper in the page tree in the current language, instead of showing the default-language page as the fallback.
  • Opening a form's or another string package's translation job no longer lands on the WordPress editor of an unrelated page that shares its id; the job opens in WPML's editor with its translations.
  • The scan of themes and plugins for strings is found by the WPML → Settings search and linked from the Strings tab.
  • Translation Tasks shows a scheduled translation as Scheduled instead of Draft.
  • A custom field row without a name no longer logs PHP deprecation notices on saves and edits.
  • The engine switch on the Translations dashboard reports a refused change instead of confirming it.
  • Connecting a post with an existing translation group no longer makes it the group's original by default.
  • A subsite that uses a different domain per language no longer sends its own URL to wpml.org, so the network's registration is kept.
  • A string package's translation job no longer carries the image texts of a post that happens to share its id.
  • Fixed the e2e lab's ATE mock spending cap to refuse like the real service (only when the cap is already reached, or when one job alone is bigger than the whole cap), and to serve a refused job's stop reason with the figures stored at the refusal instead of the current ones
  • A site that is not registered yet is told so on the Translations dashboard instead of an authentication error.
  • A navigation block's links now follow the translated targets like other links.
  • A refused editor return for a job WPML had already cancelled is now visible in the job log.
  • Videos and their poster images in Elementor's new video elements now follow the translated page's media.
  • Fixed: when several configuration sources each declare a "built with page builder" pattern (for example WPML's own block pattern and Divi's), the configuration merge now keeps every pattern instead of only the last file's, so builder pages and block pages keep their page-builder handling.
  • Fixed endless database errors on a network site whose WPML tables were removed: WPML now stays off on that site and tells its administrators how to restore it.
  • Fixed a PHP fatal error when registering the site for automatic translation: a successful answer with an unexpected body from our translation system (for example a proxy or maintenance page) now ends in a logged registration error instead of a critical error.

Версия 5.2.0

What's new

  • Automatic translation no longer leaves jobs in progress when the account cannot pay: it pauses with Go to billing and resumes once paid.
  • The Translation Dashboard content list is rebuilt: it works on sites with many languages, lists every post once, and its status filters match the column.
  • Changing a custom field's translation preference updates your existing content as a tracked background task, and the settings explain what each preference does.
  • Small edits to translated content no longer lose existing translations or get charged as a full new translation.
  • A category's or tag's name and description are translated and charged once, not again in every post that uses them.
  • Product variations stay out of Translate Everything, and empty variation jobs created earlier are retired.
  • Cancelling a job for content that was already translated restores its previous state.
  • WPML's admin screens follow your admin language, right-to-left languages included.
  • Comment counts are shown per language, and post statuses stay in sync between originals and their translations.
  • Review mode is kept per translation batch, and the Advanced Translation Editor marks media and taxonomy texts whose original changed.
  • Multisite: the subsite setup wizard handles the site key correctly, without a broken users query, and subsites no longer report a site-key mismatch.
  • Translation Priority is removed, and WPML Reset is blocked while the site still has secondary languages.
  • The site's check-in with wpml.org includes its setup and automatic translation health; one opt-in checkbox in the setup wizard and Settings controls sharing your content statistics and plugin list.
  • All WPML add-ons are built from the same source as WPML and ship in step with it.
  • Every WPML add-on carries the same shared library version as WPML, so the 'WPML Update is Incomplete' notice stays translated whichever plugin loads first.
  • Security hardening: stricter handling of stored data, validated request input, safer file deletion, file names and include paths, and escaped stored values.
  • When the Administrator role has lost WPML's capabilities, WPML restores them, so new administrators see all of WPML.
  • The setup wizard's minimum-requirements warning can no longer be walked past and then lost.
  • When sending content to translation fails because of a database problem, the popup shows the error details.
  • When WPML cannot read your account's available words, it shows a clear status and message.
  • A job that keeps failing beside successfully created ones is no longer retried without limit.
  • During a connection outage that only a new send can end, the banner no longer shows a retry countdown.
  • In the Translation Queue, statuses ticked in the Status filter stay ticked after the job list loads.
  • The "Your automatic translation pricing has been upgraded" notice on the Translation Dashboard now shows its content instead of staying empty.
  • Choosing 'Copy from original language if translation language uses encoded URLs' warns you when no active language uses encoded URLs.
  • Dropdown language switchers now open with the keyboard and by click, and tell screen readers whether they are open.
  • The language switcher dropdown icon appears only when there are translations to choose from.
  • The language switcher is turned off when the site has only one active language.
  • The language switcher on a custom post type's yearly archive links to the right archive.
  • Post and page previews use the right address on sites with a different domain per language.
  • The posts list shows the right icon for a translation in progress.
  • Content with time elements keeps its HTML intact when it is split for translation.
  • Working in several browser tabs no longer mixes languages in the block editor.
  • Language pair information cached from the Advanced Translation Editor no longer goes stale and repairs itself.
  • Connecting a translation to another translation group no longer fails while reporting success.
  • Admin lists of hierarchical post types, such as Pages, no longer run a translation query over every post, which failed on hosts that limit query size.
  • Automatic translation of categories, tags and other terms is more reliable.
  • Old admin addresses of Support tools lead to the one Support page instead of separate copies.
  • Blocks detected automatically from field-based builders such as Meta Box offer only their text attributes for translation.
  • Avada: the Fusion Post Cards widget is translated.
  • WP User Manager: the language switcher on a profile page leads to the translated profile page, not the generic one.
  • When reconnecting a copied or moved site fails, WPML no longer clears its site key, so updates and automatic translation keep working.
  • A shortcode attribute registered as base64-encoded that actually holds plain text can now be translated.

Performance

  • Saving a page or template, Elementor templates included, no longer rewrites unchanged translations, so saves on sites with many languages are much faster.
  • Front-end pages on WooCommerce sites load faster: URL rules are no longer re-read for every product term.
  • A cached front-end request no longer asks the database about WPML's language tables on every page view.
  • Front-end requests no longer write upgrade progress or re-read WPML's table layout.
  • Post edit screens no longer wait for the translation engine lookup on every load, and a failing lookup is not retried on every page.
  • Editing a post on a site with many plugins no longer runs out of memory.
  • The Translation Management dashboard no longer times out on sites with many translated terms.
  • The Translation Management dashboard no longer runs out of memory while counting words.
  • WPML > Translations no longer runs out of memory on sites with a persistent object cache, such as Redis or WP Engine's.
  • The URL resolution cache table no longer grows without limit, and saving routing settings no longer counts the whole table.
  • Term queries with long include, exclude or child lists, as in menus, widgets and product filters, are translated in one database query.
  • Translations of product terms read outside a query are looked up once per request.
  • Block default texts are translated when a block renders, not for every registered block type on every request.
  • WP-CLI commands use less memory: WPML loads its Installer only when a command needs it.
  • Multisite: switching between sites no longer runs recovery checks when there is nothing to recover, so network admin pages load quickly again.
  • Product translations are looked up in one query for products shown by WooCommerce product collection blocks.
  • WP Rocket optimizes the site's root page like every language directory, and no longer logs 'Empty buffer' for it.
  • Elementor pages no longer run every WooCommerce dynamic-id converter on each element.
  • Admin pages no longer re-register the default texts of every third-party block on each request, saving many database queries.
  • On some upgraded sites, the language catalogue refresh runs once instead of on every request.
  • Saving a post no longer re-checks WPML's tables each time, and a block post reads its string package only once.
  • Front-end pages of block themes and WooCommerce shops read block translations, term slugs and translated URL rules once per page, not on every use.
  • Values WPML caches without an expiry are kept instead of being treated as expired and deleted.
  • Looking up terms by slug no longer repeats the same adjustment for every lookup in a request.
  • WPML no longer takes a full stack trace on every home URL lookup, and its home URL filter is cached.
  • WPML no longer loads its email template engine on every admin page, REST request and AJAX call, so fewer files load.
  • Admin pages no longer count the posts carrying custom fields that wait for your decision on every load.
  • Admin pages are no longer slowed by a slow REST API check and data decompression errors.
  • Page builders: saving several translations in one request no longer rebuilds every earlier post again.
  • The posts list no longer runs a translation query for every row.
  • The AI Translation settings page loads without waiting for answers from our translation system.
  • Saving posts is faster on large multilingual sites.
  • Applying a translation to a post with many custom fields is faster.
  • The taxonomy translation page no longer times out on sites with a very large number of terms.
  • The Translation Dashboard reads the translatable content types once per page instead of twice.

Fixes for automatic translation and Translate Everything

  • Translate Everything no longer stays paused for the monthly spending cap after the cap is raised or the month resets.
  • The paused Translate Everything box shows the current monthly spending cap and this month's usage.
  • Texts that an earlier translation only copied from the original language, such as untranslated form messages, are now translated automatically instead of being treated as done, while a copy a translator completed on purpose is kept.
  • Translate Everything applies term translations whose description holds HTML, such as an image, and a failed term job states its reason.
  • Translate Everything cost estimates leave out paused languages, including items whose only missing translation is in a paused language.
  • Automatic translations are delivered even when an earlier translation of the content was deleted, and one failed job no longer affects the others.
  • Sites that WPML asks for finished translations keep collecting them until none are left, so a large batch arrives in minutes, not days.
  • Discarding a failed automatic translation job removes it for good, and its texts are not sent to automatic translation again.
  • The strings pass of Translate Everything no longer slows down on sites with many past batches.
  • A discarded or cancelled failed automatic translation of a post, string batch, string package or term is not sent again until its content changes.
  • The 'Synchronize local job ids with ATE jobs' action refuses ambiguous job mappings, so a delivery is never written into an unrelated translation.
  • Switching the translation engine in AI Translation settings reports a failed save as failed, instead of showing Saved.
  • The 'couldn't be completed' box no longer lists a job with every detail N/A after Discard jobs.
  • Translations delivered while a post screen is open keep their link to the original and their language when another plugin handles post saves.
  • Translate Everything no longer skips a term created while it finishes that taxonomy.
  • WPML admin pages keep working when the Advanced Translation Editor gives an unexpected answer about language mapping.
  • Translate Everything records each completed item once, and removing a language also clears it from the Ninja Forms and WPForms records.
  • Translate Everything cost estimates, the setup wizard's included, count posts with their term fields, strings, string packages and taxonomy labels as they are sent.
  • The automatic translation cost estimate lists what it does not count, so the final usage holds no surprises.
  • Translate Everything no longer gets stuck on block widget texts outside the admin screens, and content it cannot send no longer blocks later posts.
  • Translate Everything no longer overwrites progress that another request recorded at the same time.
  • The note under the Translate Everything word-count table explains that after the first translation, edits are free and you pay only for added words.
  • Translate Everything sends a Widgets string package added while Widgets was excluded, once Widgets is included again.
  • When WPML cannot reach the site to check for delivered translations, the status box says the checks stopped and offers to pick them up now.
  • When our translation system keeps refusing the site's address, WPML shows that it is reconnecting and keeps retrying, without asking to map the default language.
  • Pressing Pick up translations now during a delivery check collects translations right after that check ends.
  • When several admin pages are asked to reconnect to our translation system at once, WPML re-registers the site only once.
  • A language added with 'translate existing content' while WPML is reconnecting gets its existing content translated once the connection is back.
  • The Translate content button is no longer disabled without explanation while WPML reconnects to our translation system.
  • Sites with translations in progress check for finished ones every two minutes as intended, and the check no longer holds up your browser.
  • During a reconnect, Step 2 of the Translations dashboard shows no retry countdown or 'can't reach' message, and the held Translate Everything button explains why.
  • The Translate Everything estimate names the block widgets row 'Block' instead of 'Widget' or 'Widgets'.
  • The setup wizard's cost estimate no longer counts a post's category in a language it is already translated into, matching the Translations dashboard.
  • A job the translation engine could not translate appears in the list of jobs that could not be completed, with Resend and Discard.
  • Translate Everything no longer sends and charges a taxonomy label twice when its status record is lost.
  • Turning on Translate Everything no longer claims the default language is unsupported when WPML simply could not read the support information.
  • While WPML reconnects to our translation system, the Translate Everything box stays visible in a paused state and explains what is happening.
  • A translation that keeps failing to apply is given up after the third attempt and listed with Resend and Discard; Resend starts a new job.
  • WPML recognizes 'missing language mapping' answers from our translation system and clears the error icon of a job cancelled there.
  • Returning from the Advanced Translation Editor, WPML says when the translation could not be saved, with the reason and the next step.
  • Automatic translations keep being delivered when another plugin fails to save one of them, and the admin bar progress no longer restarts at zero.
  • After paying through the account widget on the WordPress Dashboard, the paused automatic translation box clears right away.
  • On Pay-As-You-Go, jobs held by a pending or failing payment say why they are waiting and how to continue.
  • A connection outage with our translation system ends only when sending works again, and Retry no longer lets a duplicate job through.
  • After a send to automatic translation, the result counts only the jobs actually created, and Retry no longer replaces a held-back job each time.
  • When part of a Translate Everything send fails, the failed items are held and sent again later.
  • An answer WPML cannot read, such as a proxy page, no longer blocks those items from automatic translation for good.
  • Sends from outside the Translation Dashboard, such as the post editor or the posts list, are no longer refused while WPML waits out an outage.
  • The connection notice tells account problems apart from Advanced Translation Editor problems, so one no longer hides the other.
  • A new connection outage no longer shows 'cannot access' at once because another request closed the previous outage mid-send.
  • String sends that fail, are cut short, target a paused language or are refused no longer leave empty string batches behind.
  • Resending a failed term job keeps the term, and a failed resend is reported as failed.
  • Turning Translate Everything off while strings are being translated no longer leaves them 'Translation in progress' for good.
  • On phone-width screens, the Set up Translate Everything window fits the screen and can be closed.
  • Translate Everything no longer re-sends, and charges again for, a job you cancelled while its first site-wide pass is still running.
  • Taxonomy jobs paused because the account ran out of words resume once words are added.
  • The dashboard no longer counts jobs our translation system never accepted as pending, so no phantom translations wait for pickup.
  • When WPML cannot read which languages automatic translation supports, cost estimates and the Translation Dashboard's language list no longer come out wrong or empty.
  • Translate Everything no longer lists a content type with nothing to translate as waiting for your approval.
  • Content types a plugin registers only in the admin, such as WPBakery's Grid Builder, can be included from Adjust content limits.

Fixes in the translation editors and translation jobs

  • Existing Classic Translation Editor translations of content with several blocks are kept when opened in the Advanced Translation Editor.
  • The Classic Translation Editor shows HTML with video, audio and picture elements in a plain text field, so no tags are lost.
  • In the translation editor, a text repeated in several blocks, shortcodes or attributes is listed under its first occurrence, so no block looks missing.
  • Completing a translation job never writes into, or moves, a post that is not the job's own translation.
  • In the Classic Translation Editor, a job whose source is a secondary language no longer loads the default-language page instead.
  • Opening a translation job sent from another translation, not the original, keeps that translation as its source language.
  • A string package or post reviewed in the Advanced Translation Editor completes and publishes when the reviewer clicks Save and Complete.
  • Reopening a delivered product translation no longer creates a new job with empty fields; the editor waits until the translation is collected.
  • An empty target in a delivered XLIFF file no longer voids the job: text-free units keep the source, and bad units are skipped.
  • Opening a translation in the editor no longer takes over an automatic job our translation system is still translating.
  • Accepting a reviewed translation of a scheduled post no longer publishes it before its original.
  • In the translation editor, a page-builder shortcode text is labelled with only the attributes it currently has.
  • In the translation editor, shortcodes inside blocks are listed in page order, with one entry per repeated text.
  • In the translation editor, a page with shortcodes inside blocks shows its two groups of texts under different names.
  • No translation job is created for a translation whose status record a simultaneous save removed, so the related PHP warnings are gone.
  • A failed write of a translation status record no longer hands back another translation's id.
  • Simultaneous saves of a translation that has no job create one baseline job, not one each.
  • A term translation reviewed in the Advanced Translation Editor is applied to the site again.
  • Files in a downloaded translation job archive have names Windows accepts, so the archive extracts everywhere.
  • When the translated post cannot be created or updated, the job is reported as failed with its reason and can be applied again.
  • The Classic Translation Editor shows a double-quoted shortcode inside a double-quoted attribute correctly.
  • Reopening a translation from a link with its job id keeps the translator's unsaved progress.
  • After an admin opens a completed translation, removing the translator or importing an XLIFF file leaves the job in the right state.
  • On the translation review page, language switcher links point to their own languages, not the language under review.

Fixes in Translation Management and the Translation Dashboard

  • Edit links of translated posts stay in place for users with no translator language pair.
  • The pencil icon of a duplicated post opens the WordPress editor again when that is the chosen translation editor.
  • Posts translated in the WordPress editor open there again while our translation system does not recognize the site's new address, and blocked translations say why.
  • Editors can open the original post from the translation status column without a 'not allowed to translate this language pair' error.
  • Sending a page, category or tag again from another language, before its translation exists, shows the new source language in Translation Jobs.
  • With automatic string registration off, returning to the Translation Dashboard window no longer starts string processing.
  • A translation that cannot open in an editor explains why above the Translation Tasks list, as the posts list does.
  • Cancel and Save in the automatic string registration dialog no longer leave the Translation Dashboard for a blank page.
  • Changing an original's language updates its translations' source language, so their jobs stay listed in Translation Jobs.
  • The jobs list no longer shows a database error for a translator whose language pair has no target languages.
  • The translation updates email no longer counts a string package job as the post with the same id.
  • Translate content stays available for a mixed selection when one kind of item is already translated.
  • The jobs summary email no longer shows a PHP warning when a job's manager is not a user.
  • The Translation Dashboard sends categories marked 'Translate automatically' even when the previous send used 'Translate myself'.

Fixes for page builders

  • Elementor: editing a translation opens the editor in your admin language, not in the page's language.
  • Elementor: saving a translation no longer fails when a theme widget needs the current document or a widget errors while rendering.
  • Elementor: each button on a translated page links to the translation of its own target, not all to the same page.
  • Elementor Pro: the Form widget's Message field is no longer sent for translation, so notification emails keep the submitted data.
  • Avada: accented characters in translated form notification emails are no longer stored as escape codes.
  • WPBakery: a Single Image with a custom link keeps its image and link on the translation.
  • Page builder values that are not lists of attachment ids are no longer rewritten to zeros on translations.
  • Flatsome and other shortcode builders: text between two shortcodes of the same name is offered for translation and translated.
  • Beaver Builder: on a translated page, the Pattern module and patterns panel list only that language's patterns.
  • Divi 5: a Loop module on the original page is kept on the translation and lists the translated posts.
  • Divi: theme-builder layouts Divi marks as unused are no longer offered in the Translation Dashboard or sent by Translate Everything.
  • A shortcode or block declared in several language configuration files keeps the attributes and settings from all of them.
  • After a search-and-replace, shortcode-based builders no longer offer the same text twice, and texts the page no longer has are removed.
  • A shortcode-built page whose content holds a block comment gets its Classic Translation Editor translation applied.
  • A shortcode ID attribute setting no longer also converts other attributes whose names end the same way.
  • Translating a shortcode attribute no longer changes another attribute with the same text.

Fixes for blocks and the block editor

  • Without String Translation, a translated page keeps the settings of a block inserted from a pattern, and translating again repairs earlier pages.
  • Editing a block widget's text keeps the translation of the text it replaces.
  • Block settings that are code, such as an HTML tag, an alignment or an animation type, keep their value in every language.
  • Block attributes holding lists of ids, such as Gallery image ids, show the translated items.
  • Custom HTML blocks: CSS holding SVG images is no longer cut, and escaped markup, ampersands and non-breaking spaces stay as written.
  • Translated pages no longer turn text that shows HTML tags, written as text in a paragraph, heading or list, into real markup.
  • Translated blocks keep their own references: link copies follow the translated anchor, and image blocks name the translated attachment.
  • Beaver Builder: a tab or accordion item that shows a saved row, column, module or template shows its translation.
  • Blocks that store a link in both markup and attributes, such as GenerateBlocks buttons, are no longer reported as broken in the editor.
  • A plugin's or theme's own language configuration is now applied as soon as it is activated, so blocks such as Kadence Blocks can be translated right away.
  • Block editor saves use the post's language, not the admin language, so a Sensei course keeps its modules.

Fixes for the language switcher

  • Language switcher AJAX navigation reads only HTML page answers, safely, so other responses never load resources or run code.
  • The footer language switcher settings window no longer opens blank, and settings that did not arrive are no longer reported as saved.
  • Language switcher data no longer resets the current post inside listings and loops.
  • With a different domain per language and WP_HOME built from the request, the default language's switcher links use its own domain.
  • The Language Switcher block works for users without the unfiltered_html capability: it saves cleanly and keeps its arrow, styles and image size.
  • A Language Switcher block whose saved markup lacks the current language no longer causes a fatal error; it lists the other languages.
  • In the block editor, the Language Switcher dropdown's toggle points screen readers to its list of languages.
  • Two Language Switcher blocks on one page no longer share a submenu id in the block editor.
  • Custom language switcher settings show their own style rules, and a switcher can no longer be saved empty or with every display option off.
  • Language switcher options no longer accept template code that every page would then render.
  • The Language Switcher block renders accented and non-Latin language names correctly on hosts with newer libxml versions.
  • The Language Switcher block no longer reports invalid content for administrators whose admin language is not English.

Fixes for categories, tags and other taxonomies

  • A term translation delivered without one of its texts, such as the description, stays open for the missing part instead of completing.
  • A taxonomy archive whose slug is the same in two languages shows the term of the requested language, and that term saves again.
  • A taxonomy's default term is no longer rewritten on every language switch, and new posts get the default term of their own language.
  • A plugin checking whether a term exists on a secondary-language page gets that term back, not its translation.
  • A custom taxonomy's default term can no longer be deleted from another language's admin, which made WordPress recreate it in the wrong language.
  • When a default category or term is deleted by code or in the database, WPML recreates it in the default language with its translations.
  • Changing a taxonomy's translation mode moves every post onto the term in its own language.
  • Deleting a category or term by code from another language's page files its posts under their own language's default, without deleting other defaults.
  • A language added from an admin in another language gets its own default category name, such as 'Uncategorized' for English.
  • A term translation created through WPML's term API keeps the source language its caller names.
  • Creating a term translation through the API by naming the original term's id works and joins the original's translation group.
  • Re-sending a translated category or tag no longer renames its slug when the original or another language shares it.
  • The admin language no longer switches back to the previously browsed language after visiting the taxonomy translation screen.
  • Sites whose term ids and term taxonomy ids differ no longer get unrelated terms in hreflang links and category counts.
  • When a custom taxonomy's English default term is gone and its translations share its name, each language keeps its own default term.
  • A late automatic translation delivery no longer overwrites manual term translations or clears their update state.

Fixes for menus

  • On sites with a persistent object cache such as Redis, translated menus and term translations are no longer replaced by the default language's.
  • In Menus, the 'Translation of' placeholder appears in the admin language, not in Spanish.
  • Saving a menu outside Appearance > Menus, through REST, the Customizer or code, keeps it linked to its translations.
  • Menu items added by code in one request keep their positions.
  • WP Menus Sync creates translated menus inside their original's translation group.
  • WP Menus Sync no longer flattens translated menus when a wpml-config file, as in the Porto theme, sets menu item fields to copy.
  • Removing an item from the original menu also removes its translated copies.
  • Applying the same WP Menus Sync changes twice no longer creates a second translated menu.
  • WP Menus Sync no longer adds draft translations to translated menus, so visitors get no 404 links.
  • Removing a parent item from the original menu no longer leaves translated child items pointing at a deleted item.
  • Publishing a menu change in the Customizer with a non-default admin language no longer renames that language's translated menu.

Fixes for links, URLs and redirects

  • Translating or duplicating a post into several languages at once no longer saves a link to a custom post type with a translated slug in the wrong language.
  • A page made with Create root page is the site's root page from its first save, in the block and classic editors.
  • A draft or pending page with the same slug no longer sends a published page in another language to a 404.
  • With a different domain per language, WPML > Settings > URLs saves again instead of failing a check for a hidden field.
  • A category address ending in a category that does not exist, often requested by crawlers, no longer writes a database error.
  • Links to archives and other non-page addresses are no longer rewritten to an Elementor template in translations.
  • Links to a post whose slug is translated are converted correctly in the default language, whatever the post's original language.
  • The login page on a hidden language's domain is no longer redirected to the default language.
  • With a hidden language and a translated login page, the hidden language's login address always works.
  • When WPML restores a missing URL format setting during a page load, that page's language links use the saved format, not ?lang= parameters.
  • A site that lost its stored language URL format keeps serving language directories and saves the setting again.
  • A translated link field holding a plain link to the translated page, as Sticky Links stores it, opens that page in the translation's language.
  • A category archive opened by its ?cat= and lang= address shows the archive instead of redirecting to the language's home page.
  • Converted page links, ACF Link and URL fields included, keep their #anchor, query string and sub-path.
  • A paginated address no longer makes links point to the wrong post.
  • A new root page gets a language after the old root page was permanently deleted.
  • A term's link updates as soon as the term is saved, so SEO plugins can create the redirect.
  • Converted anchor links no longer get a trailing slash after the #anchor.
  • A link no longer stays in the original language for a while after its translation is published.
  • Links to untranslated posts no longer lead to a 404 on sites with a different domain per language.

Fixes for languages and the setup wizard

  • The setup wizard resumes at the languages step when only the default language is left, instead of locking the admin.
  • The setup wizard's Languages step no longer shows an empty default language when the saved default language was not active.
  • In the setup wizard, adding a country variant of a language the site used before asks whether to keep the content or start fresh.
  • A language no longer in WPML's catalogue can be added as a custom language with its own code and locale.
  • The language catalogue sync fills a preset's language when an earlier version left it empty.
  • A text direction corrected in WPML's language catalogue reaches sites using that language without changing their language settings.
  • A language code of '0' no longer sends links to the default language; affected sites are repaired, and failed code changes are reported.
  • A custom language created before WPML 5.0 under a code WPML now uses, such as de-at, becomes that built-in language, keeping its content.
  • A custom language that cannot be taken over is marked Needs a mapping and is not sent to automatic translation until mapped.
  • Language search no longer offers to add Chinese (Hong Kong) as a custom language once the site has it.
  • Language pack downloads finish on hosts with a low PHP time limit, resuming instead of stalling at the last pack.
  • Resetting language defaults no longer shows PHP 8.1 deprecation notices.

Fixes for registration and updates

  • Updating WPML by upload from version 5.1 no longer shows a one-time critical error.
  • Updating WPML no longer sends a critical-error email when a management plugin such as InfiniteWP adds a post right after the update.
  • Activate & Update opens for accounts whose subscription type matches no product, instead of stopping with a critical error.
  • Activate & Update shows the registration box in every account state, with Unregister and a site key field, so old registrations can be replaced.
  • Plugin details of WPML plugins no longer warn about an untested WordPress version on WordPress point releases.
  • A registered site no longer shows 'A New Site Key Is Required' with a persistent object cache, or loses its key when wpml.org is unreachable.
  • After a site moves to a new address and keeps its translation account, WPML says the site moved instead of calling it a copy.
  • Multisite: Get a key for this site names the network's address, so the key it leads to is accepted.
  • A site that has not moved no longer shows the site-copy notice after re-registering with our translation system.
  • When the WPML products feed cannot be reached, Activate & Update keeps the last known products and says what failed, with Check again.
  • WP-CLI lists plugins without a warning while a WPML update is pending.
  • After switching back to the Production channel, Activate & Update installs the Production version, and a Download with nothing to install says so.
  • Each plugin's Release notes in Activate & Update show only that plugin's own notes.
  • After updating, browsers and CDNs load WPML's current scripts and styles instead of cached old ones.
  • Advanced Custom Fields Multilingual and other companion plugins load when their version is a beta of the release WPML requires.
  • A site no longer revalidates its key many times a second, also when several update notifications arrive at once.
  • A site key defined in wp-config.php keeps its registration when wpml.org only throttles or times out.
  • The plugin download handler checks the request's security token before validating the site key.
  • Multisite: two sites of one network with different predefined site keys no longer re-register back and forth.
  • The setup wizard no longer re-registers a site key defined in wp-config.php every time it loads.
  • The subscription update route answers success for a site whose subscription is already current, so proxies and monitors stop logging false refusals.
  • A site key in wp-config.php is stored correctly even when copied with a trailing space or line break.
  • Sites with a Blog licence no longer get a fatal error about a missing constant.

Fixes for WooCommerce sites

  • On sites with WooCommerce Multilingual, WPML no longer falls back to its setup wizard on its own and shows every language's posts.
  • WPML's admin scripts, CMS Navigation and Sticky Links no longer fail with 'addLoadEvent is not defined' on the WooCommerce Multilingual setup wizard.
  • Removing a category from a product updates the translated category's product count in every language.
  • Products translated with the Classic Translation Editor keep variation, attribute and custom-field translations when opened in the Advanced Translation Editor.
  • Importing translated variable products no longer fails on duplicate attribute rows when a parent product carries both languages' terms.
  • WooCommerce Multilingual no longer rebuilds its translated account and checkout addresses twice when content types are registered late.

Fixes for custom fields and Advanced Custom Fields

  • The Custom Fields Translation and Custom Term Meta Translation settings screens open again when a plugin or import left a nameless custom-field row.
  • A background task queued without asking after the 5.1.0 update is retired; a newly translatable custom field waits for your decision instead.
  • The Custom Term Meta Translation settings say a translated field is translated with the term, not with the post.
  • Nested ACF fields (Flexible Content, Repeater, Group) on taxonomy terms are translated, automatically and in the editor.
  • Repeater and flexible content sub-fields set to Copy now reach the translations when a row is added outside the post editor, for example with update_field() or a front-end ACF form.
  • A newly translatable custom field marks as 'Needs update' only the translated posts that actually have the field.
  • Changing an ACF field's translation preference also updates existing term translations.
  • ACF field-group labels keep their translations after the Advanced Custom Fields Multilingual 2.2 migration.
  • Upgrading from WPML 4.x no longer restores old custom-field settings after Advanced Custom Fields Multilingual's cleanup, which kept unneeded data loading.
  • In Custom Fields Translation, a preference picked while search results load is kept, instead of being lost after 'Data saved'.
  • Saving a translation through the REST API from an outside client no longer runs a full custom-field sync each time.
  • Custom fields written after WPML copies a post's fields still reach its translations.
  • Changing a word in an ACF Link field on the Taxonomy translation screen keeps the translated link.
  • Changing an ACF field to Copy, Copy once or Don't translate in WPML Settings updates the existing translations.

Fixes for media and images

  • Media Translation: a translated block-editor page keeps its own image after the translation is saved on object cache hosting.
  • Completing a translation job that carries media no longer creates orphan attachment copies in every secondary language.
  • A query for an attachment in a secondary language returns its translation, or the attachment itself, fixing Enfold Color Section backgrounds.
  • An image a page builder names by its URL shows the media texts of the page's language.
  • Page-builder images, such as a Divi section background, show the right original texts in the translation editor and save to the right image.
  • An image without a usable address in a widget or content no longer causes an object cache error on every page load.

Fixes for posts and pages

  • Custom post type posts no longer vanish from admin lists after a wpml-config.xml file makes the type translatable; affected sites are repaired on update.
  • Deleting, trashing or restoring a translated post from a scheduled task or front-end form applies to its translations, as in the admin.
  • Saving a post whose database row disappeared no longer stops with a fatal error.
  • Restoring a post from the Trash keeps its translations' status; draft and private translations no longer come back published.
  • A scheduled post no longer publishes its trashed or unfinished translations on its date when publishing dates are copied to translations.
  • Front-end requests no longer crash with infinite recursion while resolving the current language.
  • Updating a post whose language is disabled keeps that language, and saving a post no longer disconnects another of its translations.
  • Checking a post id that matches no post no longer produces PHP warnings.

Fixes for compatibility with other plugins and themes

  • Other plugins' admin pages, such as Slider Revolution and Avada options, load their scripts again with WPML active.
  • No critical error on every page when another plugin, such as the Tatsu builder, looks up posts while plugins are loading.
  • When another plugin fails while WordPress loads, the site shows WordPress's critical-error page again, not a blank page.
  • WPML restores the site's language when another plugin, such as WP All Export Pro, switches it and never switches it back.
  • Cache plugins that flush the object cache no longer cause 'Commands out of sync' database errors, because WPML reads its page settings once.
  • Yoast SEO sitemaps list each translated post under its own URL when WPML SEO is not active.
  • WPML SEO translates the text values of every Rank Math schema type.
  • The Events Calendar: the root page no longer appears blank with 'Integrate events in main blog loop' enabled.

Fixes for admin screens and settings

  • A site whose stored WPML setting was removed, by a cleanup plugin or a partial restore, gets it back from WPML's saved copy.
  • Settings saved while WPML is finalizing its database update are no longer lost.
  • Troubleshooting: rebuilding the cache for a single URL runs reliably in the background, and the Rebuild click is no longer lost.
  • The 'Your automatic translation pricing has been upgraded' notice shows only to users who can manage translations.
  • Settings search: the Theme and plugins localization entry scrolls to the Localization options under Compatibility.
  • The old Theme and plugins localization address leads to Settings > Compatibility with the theme and plugin scan shown.
  • Requests that run during WPML Reset can no longer re-create WPML's tables and settings.
  • WPML Reset from the Network Admin also checks for secondary languages first.
  • Removing Translation Priority no longer writes a false 'item deleted' record on upgrading sites.
  • The notice shown when WPML's admin health check fails names the request that failed.
  • Support > Communication log stays readable after Refresh services.
  • Changing the translation engine is reported in the site's daily check-in with wpml.org.
  • The "Same as default" tooltip in WPML's language settings can now be translated.
  • In admin REST requests, switching the locale applies to translations as expected.

Fixes for databases and multisite

  • On database clusters that refuse named locks, such as Percona XtraDB strict mode, WPML switches to a table-based lock and keeps working.
  • WPML creates its tables with a matching character set and collation on MariaDB 11.
  • WPML creates all its tables with one character set and collation, and a notice names any table the database refuses to create.
  • On databases that refuse named locks, the Installer log is written without a database error.
  • Multisite: network sites where WPML is inactive, or active but not set up, no longer log errors about a missing languages table.

Other fixes

  • String Translation no longer writes a language's translation file from an inactive language sharing its locale, which left strings untranslated.
  • String Translation: a deleted string that came from a block's default text, as in WooCommerce blocks, no longer comes back.
  • Importing a .po file whose translations contain internal links no longer fails with a server error.
  • String Translation registers and imports theme and plugin translation files when WordPress is installed at the server's filesystem root.

Версия 5.2.0-beta.2 beta

  • WPML reads the front page, posts page and privacy page settings once per page load, so a cache plugin flushing the object cache no longer makes WPML query them mid-request (the "Commands out of sync" errors seen with another plugin's unbuffered database read).
  • Re-sending a translated category or tag no longer renames its slug when the original or another language shares it.
  • A site that has not moved no longer shows the site-copy migration notice after re-registering with our translation system.
  • The Classic Translation Editor shows HTML with video, audio and picture elements in a plain text field, so none of their tags is lost.
  • Translate Everything no longer stays paused for the monthly spending cap after the cap is raised or the month resets, and the paused box shows the current cap and this month's usage.
  • Translate Everything no longer names a content type with nothing to translate as waiting for your approval, and content types that a plugin registers only in the WordPress admin (such as WPBakery's Grid Builder) can be included from Adjust content limits.
  • The note under the Translate Everything word-count table now says that after the first translation, edits are free and you pay again only for the words you add.
  • None: a new end-to-end guard for button links to sibling pages in translated Elementor pages; nothing changes on a site.
  • Fixed WPML -> Translations failing to load with an "Allowed memory size exhausted" error on sites with a persistent object cache (such as Redis or WP Engine's) once the site had many translated items.
  • Fixed existing Classic-editor translations being discarded (every segment shown in the source language) when a translation of content with several blocks is opened in the Advanced Translation Editor.
  • Fixed the setup wizard's Languages step showing an empty default language and refusing to continue on sites whose saved default language was not active.
  • Fixed the URL resolution cache table (icl_url_resolution_cache) growing without bound on sites whose routing settings change often, and removed a full count of that table from every save that changes a routing setting.
  • The "Your automatic translation pricing has been upgraded" notice on the WordPress Dashboard is now shown only to users who can manage translations, so Editors and other users no longer get a notice whose button opens a page they are not allowed to see.
  • Fixed automatic translations stopping being delivered when saving one of them fails in another plugin, and the admin bar's automatic translation progress restarting at zero on every page load.
  • Fixed the translation editor showing another language's image texts as the original for images used by a page builder (such as a Divi section background), and saving their translation to the wrong image.
  • Fixed the "couldn't be completed" box on the Translation Management dashboard listing a job with every detail "N/A" that came back after "Discard jobs".
  • WPML's inline admin scripts, CMS Navigation and Sticky Links no longer fail with "addLoadEvent is not defined" on the WooCommerce Multilingual setup wizard page; each waits for the page on its own.
  • A discarded automatic update job of a category, tag or string package now stays out of automatic translation until its content changes.
  • Fixed a link to an archive, or to any address that is not a page, being rewritten in translations to an Elementor template or another internal post type that shares its slug.
  • Fixed an image without a usable address in a widget or in content triggering an object cache error on every page load.
  • the scenario's follow-through probe dials the site through the lane's wp bridge alias with the Host header, and the two block-attribute integration tests now read the new contract (a JSON-only sticky link is restored at render)
  • A warm front-end request no longer asks the database about WPML's language tables and columns on every page view.
  • Fixed WPML leaving the site's language switched at the end of requests in which a third-party plugin switched the language and never switched it back (seen with WP All Export Pro's export filtering), so anything running after such a request in the same process read the wrong language.
  • A finished copy of the source goes out as leveraged-tm only when no human completed it; a copy a human completed (translator-owned or editor-written predecessor job holding the same translation) stays tm-suggestion
  • Fixed opening a translation in the editor taking over an automatic job that our translation system was still translating.
  • Fixed a critical-error email sent during the plugin's own update request when a management plugin (such as InfiniteWP) inserts a post right after the update replaces the plugin's files: WPML now skips its DIC-built event listeners for the rest of that one request and works normally from the next.
  • An empty XLIFF target no longer voids a delivered job: valid when the source carries no text (the source is kept as the translation), and a bad unit is recorded and skipped instead of failing the rest
  • Installer: the plugin-details window of WPML plugins no longer warns that the plugin has not been tested with your WordPress version when you run a point release of the WordPress version the release was tested with.
  • Fixed a critical error on every page when another plugin, such as the Tatsu builder, looks up posts while plugins are still loading.
  • None: covered by the same fix's own line (the setup wizard's Languages step and its default language).
  • None: covered by the same fix's own line (the schema facts are kept per table prefix).
  • Fixed String Translation writing a language's translation file from an inactive language that shares its locale, which left translated strings untranslated on the front end
  • Fixed accented characters in translated Avada form notification emails being stored as escape codes
  • After a site moves to a new address and keeps its own translation account, WPML says the site moved instead of calling it a copy with a Disconnect button; on a multisite network, Get a key for this site names the network's address, so the key it leads to is accepted.
  • Fixed an image that a page builder names by its URL showing the media texts of another language's copy instead of the page language's.

Версия 5.2.0-beta.1 beta

  • While WPML reconnects to our translation system, the Translate Everything box on the Translations dashboard stays visible in a paused state and says what is happening, instead of disappearing.
  • Translated content keeps its own references: a block's link copy in its JSON follows the translated anchor; a translated image block names its translated attachment (so it gets a srcset); a Beaver Builder tab or accordion item that shows a saved row, column, module or template shows its translation.
  • The data-sharing step of the setup wizard is headed "What WPML shares with wpml.org" and the Settings section "Information shared with wpml.org".
  • WPML no longer loads its email template engine on every admin page, REST request and AJAX call. REST requests and admin pages load fewer WPML files. WooCommerce Multilingual no longer rebuilds its translated account and checkout URLs a second time on sites whose theme or plugins register content types late. While custom fields wait for your decision, admin pages no longer count the posts that carry them on every load.
  • A scheduled post no longer publishes its trashed or unfinished translations on its date when 'Copy publishing date to translations' is on.
  • Yoast SEO sitemaps list each translated post under its own URL when the WPML SEO add-on is not active.
  • Saving a page or template no longer rewrites every translation that did not change, so saves on sites with many languages are fast again.
  • A translation whose delivery keeps failing to apply is now given up after the third attempt and moved to the unsolvable-jobs list with Resend and Discard, instead of being retried forever (note: Resend sends it as a new automatic job, which our translation system charges as a new job). WPML now recognizes "missing language mapping" answers from our translation system even without the unsolvable flag, and clears the error icon of a job cancelled there. Returning from the Advanced Translation Editor, WPML now says when the translation could not be saved, with the reason and the next step. And a failed automatic update you discard stays discarded until the content actually changes.
  • The language switcher settings save on servers that hand WordPress the form HTML-escaped; before, every save there was refused.
  • The Translation Management dashboard no longer times out on sites with many translated terms: it reads the terms' fields in batches and builds the taxonomy data once per page load.
  • "Synchronize local job ids with ATE jobs" could tell our translation system an ambiguous job mapping when one ATE job id was recorded on two translations, so later deliveries of those jobs could be written into an unrelated original's translation. The sync now refuses the ambiguous map and reports it, and a delivery whose ATE job names another original is refused and reported instead of being applied — however the delivery arrives (the notification webhook or the background collection).
  • Fixed translated pages built with blocks that store a link both in the markup and in a block attribute (e.g. GenerateBlocks buttons) being reported as broken in the editor after the link's target page was translated later than the linking page.
  • Switching the translation engine on WPML → Settings → AI Translation could report "Saved" and paint the page in the new engine's state when our translation system had refused the write — the old engine came back on the next page load. A save whose engine the system did not take is now reported as failed, on the engine-switch dialog and on the page's Save settings alike.
  • With 'A different domain per language' selected, WPML → Settings → URLs could refuse to save, blocked by the 'Use directory for default language' validation for a field the form does not show in that mode.
  • A post recorded by mistake in the translation group of another content type (for example a blog post recorded as a product's translation) can again be connected to its own original with Connect with translations on its edit screen.
  • On sites with a persistent object cache such as Redis, a translated menu could be replaced by the default-language menu a few minutes after it was set up, and term translations could be looked up wrongly until the next term was saved.
  • Fixed: a request for a category address whose last part is not an existing category (often sent by crawlers) wrote "Unknown column 'wpml_translations.language_code'" database errors to the site's log.
  • Fixed existing posts of a custom post type disappearing from the admin lists (default language and All languages) after a wpml-config.xml file enabled translation for the type, and added an upgrade repair that assigns the missing language rows on sites already affected.
  • On sites without String Translation, a translated page could lose the settings of a block inserted from a pattern (for example a full-width Group), because the translation came back with the block's settings unreadable. Translations now keep the block's settings, and translating the page again repairs a page translated earlier.
  • On sites running WooCommerce Multilingual, WPML could fall back to its setup wizard on its own. The WPML menu then showed only Setup and Support, and the home page listed every language's posts until the setup was applied again.

Версия 5.1.1-beta.6 beta

  • The site key defined in wp-config.php is stored by WPML exactly as the Installer stores it, even when it was copied with a trailing space or line break.
  • Turning on Translate Everything no longer reports that the default language does not support automatic translation when WPML could not read the support information from our translation system.
  • The Custom Term Meta Translation settings now say a translated field is translated with the term, not with the post.
  • Fixed a category archive requested by its plain ?cat=<id>&lang=<code> URL in parameter language negotiation being redirected to the language's home page instead of the archive.
  • Installer: the subscription push route answers a site whose subscription is already fresh with a success status instead of 403, so proxies and monitors no longer log a refusal that did not happen
  • A page whose content is not sent for translation keeps its original content in the translation instead of an empty page.
  • Sending content to translation no longer turns another item that sits in its translation group (for example a blog post recorded as a product's English translation) into the translation: that item is moved to its own group and the translation is created.
  • Importing a .po file whose translations contain internal links no longer fails with a server error
  • Troubleshooting: the single-URL cache rebuild runs its background requests as a bounded chain with a cron fallback, and the Rebuild click is no longer dropped while a status poll is running.
  • The words-to-translate estimate in the setup wizard and the Translations dashboard counts a post's untranslated categories and tags once, not a second time with the post, so the total is again the arithmetic shown under it.
  • Reopening a delivered product translation no longer creates a new job with empty target fields: the editor waits until the translation is collected from our translation system.

Версия 5.1.1-beta.5 beta

  • WPML sends its setup and translation state with the registration check-in, signed with the site key, so the account and support know the site's state.
  • The content statistics a site agreed to share go to wpml.org signed with the site key, for every public post type, and wpml.org can ask for a report or stop them.
  • The data-sharing report is sent two seconds after the request that raised it, so no page waits for it.
  • The data-sharing step of the setup wizard and the Data sharing section of WPML > Settings now say what WPML always sends to wpml.org, and offer one checkbox for sending content statistics, with a line saying what those statistics are.
  • Fixed: a background task that WPML 5.1.0 queued after an update to reprocess posts for a newly translatable custom field, without asking, is retired on update; the field waits for your decision on the Custom Fields Translation screen instead.
  • Improved: marking translations as needing an update after a custom-field change reads the field settings once per batch and builds no unused translation package; the background reprocessing and every save of an original are lighter.
  • Links to a post whose slug was translated are converted correctly in the default language, whatever language the post's original is in.
  • Fixed: in the Beaver Builder editor of a translated page, the WordPress Pattern module and the patterns panel list the patterns of the page's language only.
  • Products translated with the classic editor keep their variation, attribute and custom-field translations when opened in the Advanced Translation Editor with 'Use also for old translations created with the classic editor' enabled.
  • Page builders: a WPBakery Single Image with a custom link keeps its image and link on the translation; a builder value that is not a list of attachment ids is no longer rewritten to zeros.
  • A string package or post reviewed in the Advanced Translation Editor completes and publishes when the reviewer clicks Save and Complete; before, it stayed in Review in progress.
  • Taxonomy translation: a term translation delivered without one of its texts (for example the description) no longer completes the job with that text empty; the job stays open for the missing part.
  • Performance: a term query with a long include, exclude or child list (menus, widgets, product filters) translates the list with one database read instead of one per term.
  • Removing a category from a product now updates the translated category's product count too, in every language and whichever way the product is saved.

Версия 5.1.1-beta.4 beta

  • Taxonomies: when the default term of a translatable taxonomy, or the default category, is deleted by code or directly in the database, WPML creates it again in the site's default language with its translations, instead of in the language of the page that noticed it
  • Installer: WP-CLI lists plugins without a warning while a WPML update is pending; after switching back to the Production channel, Activate & Update installs the Production version on any visit, and a Download with nothing to install says so; each plugin's Release notes show only its own notes.
  • Language switcher settings: the custom language switchers' settings window shows its own style rules, and a language switcher can no longer be saved empty or with a template the settings screen does not offer
  • Taxonomies: changing a taxonomy's translation mode again moves every post onto the term in its own language, also when some post already carries both a term and its translation
  • Custom HTML blocks: CSS holding an SVG image (</svg>) is no longer cut on translated pages, and text that shows HTML tags, & or non-breaking spaces keeps them in the translation
  • Translation dashboard: with automatic string registration off, switching back to the dashboard window no longer sends a request to process the strings queue
  • A site whose stored WPML setting was removed from the database (by a cleanup plugin or a partial restore) keeps its configuration, such as a language URL format with a domain per language, instead of having it reset to the installation default
  • Languages: a language code of "0" no longer sends that language's links to the default language; sites that have one are repaired on update, and a language code change that does not reach the database is reported as an error
  • Translation dashboard: when WPML cannot reach the site to check for delivered translations, the status box no longer says "checking now" for good; it says the checks stopped and offers to pick up translations now
  • Translate Everything now sends a Widgets string package that was added while Widgets was excluded from automatic translation, once Widgets is included again
  • Sending a page again from another language, before its translation exists, now shows the new source language in Translation Jobs and the translation editor
  • Translated pages no longer turn text that shows HTML tags (such as <strong> written as text in a paragraph, heading or list item) into real markup
  • Translation dashboard: Cancel and Save settings in the automatic string registration dialog no longer leave the dashboard for a blank page
  • Translation Management: when our translation system keeps refusing the site's address, WPML now shows that it is reconnecting and keeps retrying, instead of failing silently, and the Translations dashboard no longer asks to map the default language while the system cannot be reached
  • Taxonomies: a term translation created through WPML's term API keeps the source language its caller names, instead of always taking the group's original
  • Languages: a language added from an admin in another language, or a default category written for it, gets its own default category name ('Uncategorized' for English) instead of the admin's
  • Taxonomies: deleting a category or term by code from a page in another language files its posts under the default of their own language, and no longer deletes another language's default category or term
  • Taxonomies: when a translatable taxonomy's default term was deleted directly in the database, WPML writes it again with the translations it had, instead of new ones
  • A site whose stored WPML setting row was removed from the database (by a cleanup plugin or a partial restore) gets the setting back from WPML's saved copy, such as the domain of each language, instead of losing it for good
  • Translation Management: a translation that cannot open in an editor now says why above the Translation Tasks list, with the same message the posts list shows
  • Performance: editing a post on a site with many plugins no longer runs out of memory; WPML no longer copies the whole call stack, with its data, for every query of the screen
  • On a page load in which WPML had to set a missing URL format setting again (for example the first page after activating WPML), the language links of that page now use the URL format WPML saves instead of ?lang= parameters
  • Translation delivery: a site that WPML has to ask for finished translations now keeps collecting them a few seconds apart until none are left, instead of a few at each check, so a large batch of automatic translations arrives in minutes instead of days
  • Sending a category or tag again from another language, before its translation exists, now shows the new source language in Translation Jobs
  • Creating a term translation through the API by naming the original term's id no longer stops with an error; the new term joins the original's translation group
  • Translation Management: a language added with 'translate existing content' while WPML is reconnecting to our translation system now gets its existing content translated automatically once the system answers
  • Translation Management: the Translations dashboard no longer keeps the Translate content button disabled without explanation while WPML is reconnecting to our translation system
  • Translation Management: when several admin pages meet our translation system's request to reconnect at the same time, WPML now re-registers the site once instead of once per request, and keeps showing that it is reconnecting
  • The Translate Everything estimate no longer logs a database error when no string package kind is registered (the setup wizard's cost step).
  • Advanced Custom Fields Multilingual and the other companion plugins now load when their version is a beta of the release WPML requires.
  • Translations dashboard: pressing "Pick up translations now" while a delivery check is in flight now triggers the pickup right after it instead of waiting for the next scheduled check.
  • Translation jobs are no longer created for a translation whose status record was removed by a concurrent save, which removes the related PHP warnings.
  • A link field in a translation that holds a plain link to the translated page (as stored when Sticky Links is active) now opens that page in the translation's language instead of the default language.
  • Discarding a failed automatic translation job now removes it for good, and the discarded texts are no longer sent to automatic translation again. The strings pass of Translate Everything no longer slows down on sites with many past batches.
  • Automatic translation: a job the translation engine could not translate now appears in the list of jobs that could not be completed, with Resend and Discard, instead of staying in progress.
  • The notice shown when WPML's admin health check fails now names the request that failed.
  • After you discard or cancel a failed automatic translation of a post, a string package or a term, Translate Everything no longer sends the same item to the same language again until you edit it or send it by hand.
  • Pull delivery: a site with translations in progress at ATE now checks for finished ones every two minutes as intended instead of every four, and the check that starts a pick-up no longer holds the browser's request for a second.
  • The setup wizard no longer re-registers a site key defined in wp-config.php on every load of its data.
  • A failed write of a translation status row no longer hands its caller another translation's id.
  • The translation cost estimate names core's block widgets package row Widget / Widgets instead of Block.
  • Translations dashboard: during a reconnect to our translation system, Step 2 no longer shows a retry countdown, and the held Translate Everything button now says why it is held
  • A site whose stored language URL format was lost keeps serving language directories and saves the setting again; a post or term whose language is changed keeps its translation jobs listed; a translator with a language pair that has no target languages no longer causes a database error in the jobs list
  • A custom language created before WPML 5.0 under a code WPML now uses for one of its own languages (such as de-at) is taken over as that language on update, keeping its name, flag and content; where that is not possible, WPML no longer sends it to automatic translation until it is mapped, and the Languages screen marks it Needs a mapping
  • String Translation: a deleted string that came from a block's default text (for example WooCommerce blocks) no longer comes back with a new id on the next admin page
  • The Custom Fields Translation and Custom Term Meta Translation settings screens open again on sites where a plugin or an import left a custom-field row without a name.
  • Media Translation: a translated page built with the block editor keeps its own image after saving the translation (object cache hosting)

Версия 5.1.1-beta.3 beta

  • Installer: when the WPML products feed cannot be reached, Activate & Update keeps the WPML products it last read and says in the box what failed, with Check again, instead of an empty box
  • Performance: product translations are looked up in one query for products rendered by WooCommerce product collection blocks
  • Performance: block default strings are translated when a block renders, not for every registered block type on every request
  • Performance: term translation lookups for product terms read outside a query are made once per request
  • Translate Everything cost estimates count string packages, languages, taxonomy labels and the setup wizard's posts the way Translate Everything sends and charges them
  • Translate Everything no longer records the same completed item more than once, and removing a language also removes it from the Ninja Forms and WPForms completed lists.
  • With a hidden language and the translated login page, the hidden language's login address works no matter which visitor's request wrote the rewrite rules
  • Front-end pages of block themes and WooCommerce shops read block id translations, term slugs and translated rewrite rules once per page instead of on every use
  • The Language Switcher block now saves correctly for users without the unfiltered_html capability: the Site Editor no longer reports invalid content, the dropdown arrow shows, and screen readers can follow the dropdown to its list of languages.
  • WPML creates all its tables with one character set and collation, and an admin notice now names any table the database refuses to create, with the database's error
  • String Translation registers and imports theme and plugin translation files on sites where WordPress is installed at the root of the server's filesystem.
  • Deleting, trashing or restoring a translated post from a scheduled task or a front-end form now applies to its translations as it does in the admin, and saving a post whose database row disappeared no longer stops with a fatal error.
  • A plugin that checks whether a term exists on a page in a secondary language now gets that term back, not its translation.
  • The default term of a translatable custom taxonomy can no longer be deleted from another language's admin, which made WordPress recreate it in the wrong language.
  • When another plugin fails while WordPress loads, the site shows WordPress's critical-error page again instead of a blank error page.
  • WPML admin pages keep working when Advanced Translation Editor answers the language-mapping request with an unexpected response.
  • Block settings that are code, such as an HTML tag, an alignment or an animation type, keep their value in every language instead of taking a translation the block cannot use.
  • A block attribute that a wpml-config.xml declares as ids and that holds a list of ids, such as the image ids of a Gallery block, now shows the translated items on translated pages.
  • Translate Everything no longer gets stuck on the block widgets' strings when it runs outside the admin screens: they are sent once, and content that cannot be sent no longer stops the pages and posts after it.
  • A Language Switcher block whose saved markup has no current-language item no longer causes a fatal error on the page; it lists the other languages.
  • In the block editor, the Language Switcher dropdown's toggle now points screen readers to its list of languages.
  • Languages: a direction corrected in the WPML language catalogue reaches sites that already use the language, without changing the site's own language settings.
  • In the translation editor, a page that uses shortcodes inside blocks now shows its two groups of texts with different names, for example "Page Builder Page 6: shortcodes" and "Page Builder Page 6: Gutenberg".
  • Two language switcher blocks on the same page no longer share one submenu id in the block editor; the published page's markup is unchanged.
  • A draft, pending or auto-draft page with the same slug as a published page no longer takes the published page's URL into a 404.
  • WP-CLI: WPML loads its Installer only when a command uses it, so commands need less memory.
  • WP-CLI: WPML loads its Translation Management admin layer only when a command uses it, so commands need less memory.
  • Opening a translation job whose source is a secondary language no longer replaces it with a copy of the default-language page.
  • Translation: the name and description of a category or tag are translated and billed once, in their own translation, not again inside every post that uses them.
  • Fixed other plugins' admin pages (such as Slider Revolution and Avada options) not loading their scripts while WPML was active.
  • A site that lost its language setup flag gets it back on upgrade, so its language directories resolve again.
  • WP-CLI: WPML loads its Twig templating only when a command uses it, so commands need less memory.
  • The automatic translation cost estimate now lists what it does not count, so the final consumption no longer surprises.
  • Fix: after updating from 5.1.0, browsers and CDNs load WPML's current scripts and styles instead of cached 5.0.2 files
  • Language switcher settings: the footer switcher's settings window no longer opens blank, and settings that did not arrive are no longer reported as saved
  • Translation Management: opening a translation job that was sent from another translation (not the original) keeps that source, instead of replacing the job with one from the original and resetting the translation's source language
  • Translation Management: the edit icon of a post translated in the WordPress editor opens the WordPress editor again while our translation system does not recognize the site's new address, and a translation that cannot open in the Advanced Translation Editor for that reason says so

Версия 5.1.1-beta.2 beta

  • Multisite: no more database errors about a missing languages table on network sites where WPML is not active.
  • Editors can open the original post from the translation status column without a 'not allowed to translate this language pair' error.
  • Language pack downloads finish on hosts with a low PHP time limit: the background task resumes instead of stalling at the last pack.
  • Edit links of translated posts stay in place for users who have no translator language pair.
  • The setup wizard resumes at the languages step when a site is left with only its default language, instead of locking the admin on a finished screen.
  • Translations delivered while a post screen was open in the admin could lose their link to the original or show under the wrong language when another plugin also handled post saves outside wp-admin; deliveries no longer change the language details of other translations.
  • Activate & Update opens for accounts whose subscription type matches no product in the download data, instead of stopping with a critical error.
  • A page created with Create root page is the site's root page from its first save, in the block and the classic editor, before the language URL format is saved: no language, and the root page notice instead of the language selector.
  • Elementor: saving a translation no longer fails when a theme widget needs the document as the current post, and a widget error while rendering the plain-text copy no longer blocks the translation.
  • Language switcher data no longer resets the current post: a listing or loop that asks for the active languages (directly or through an image URL lookup) keeps rendering its own item instead of the page.
  • Multisite: switching between sites no longer runs settings-recovery checks and cleanup queries on every switch when there is nothing to recover; network admin pages with many sites load as before 5.1.
  • Elementor: editing a translation opens the editor in the user's admin language on every editor request, not in the page's language.
  • Completing a translation job never writes into, or moves, a post that is not the job's own translation: a stale translation record left by a deleted or moved translation is replaced by a new one.
  • A taxonomy archive whose slug is the same in two languages is resolved to the term of the requested language, not to the other language's term, and that term can be saved again, also with "Adjust IDs for multilingual functionality" off.
  • Divi: theme-builder layouts that Divi marks as unused are no longer offered in the Translation Dashboard or sent by Translate Everything.
  • Posts list: the original's cell on a translation's row opens the original for every user who may edit it, instead of a greyed icon without a link
  • Post edit screens no longer wait for the translation engine lookup on every load: the editor settings dialog asks for it when opened, with the engines call only, and a failing lookup is not retried on every page.
  • Setup wizard: adding a country variant of a language the site used before asks whether to keep the existing content or start fresh, instead of showing an internal error; the wizard never shows raw error data.
  • Translation jobs: a text repeated in several blocks of a page is listed under its first occurrence instead of its last, so no block reads as missing
  • Activate & Update: the registration box draws in every account state, with Unregister and a site key field, so an expired or foreign registration can be removed and replaced; no link or image is built from an address that cannot be formed.
  • Translation jobs: file names inside the downloaded job archive no longer carry characters Windows does not allow in file names, so the archive extracts everywhere.
  • Page builders: after a search-and-replace changed a page's texts, shortcode-based builders no longer offer the same text twice for translation; strings the content no longer produces are removed from the page's package
  • Translation jobs: when the translated post cannot be created or updated, the job is reported as failed with the reason and can be applied again, instead of being marked complete without a translation.
  • Taxonomy translations: a term's translations are resolved by its term taxonomy id, so sites whose term ids and term taxonomy ids have drifted apart no longer get unrelated terms in hreflang alternates and category counts.
  • Language Switcher block: language names with accented or non-Latin characters render correctly on hosts with libxml 2.15 and newer; HTML parsed by WPML always declares its encoding.
  • Database locks: on clusters that refuse named locks (Percona XtraDB strict mode), WPML switches to a table-based lock on its own, so the admin keeps working; a filter can force the backend.
  • Root page: WP Rocket optimises the site's root address like every language directory; it no longer logs 'Empty buffer' for it.
  • Divi 5: a Loop module on the original page is kept on the translated page and lists the translated posts.
  • Performance: WPML no longer writes upgrade-progress options or re-reads its table layout on every front-end request
  • Installer: on databases that refuse MySQL named locks the Installer log is written without a database error
  • Languages: a language the catalogue no longer offers can be added as a custom language with its own code and locale
  • Page builders: a shortcode or block declared in more than one language configuration file keeps the attributes, keys and ID settings of all of them
  • Translation editor: a text repeated in several page-builder shortcodes is listed under the first of them, not the last
  • Languages: the catalogue refresh after the language column settles on the first run instead of running on every request on some upgraded sites
  • Translation editor: the label of a page-builder shortcode string names only the attributes it currently has
  • Performance: saving a post no longer re-checks the string-package table on every save
  • Languages: the catalogue sync fills a preset's language when an earlier version left it empty
  • Translation editor: shortcodes inside blocks are listed in page order with one entry per repeated text
  • Translation editor: a text used in two attributes of one shortcode is listed where it first appears
  • Performance: saving a post no longer re-checks the element-knowledge table on every save
  • Performance: saving a block post reads its string package id once
  • Block widgets: editing a widget's text keeps the translation of the text it replaces
  • Faster front-end pages on WooCommerce sites: WPML no longer re-reads the site's URL rules for every product term, and WooCommerce Multilingual no longer loads WooCommerce's whole translation file on every page
  • Translate Everything: taxonomy term translations whose description holds HTML (for example an image) are applied, and a failed term job names its reason
  • Media: a query for a specific attachment in a secondary language answers its translation, or the attachment itself when it has none (Enfold Color Section backgrounds)
  • Language switcher AJAX navigation: only HTML page answers are read, and read inertly, so other requests' answers never load resources or run code
  • Translate Everything cost estimates (Dashboard, Settings, setup wizard) leave out languages whose translation is paused
  • WPML's tables are created with a matching charset and collation on MariaDB 11 (UCA 14.0.0 collations)
  • The login page on a hidden language's domain is no longer redirected to the default language
  • Elementor: dynamic-id conversion no longer evaluates 108 WooCommerce converters on every element
  • Translate Everything: a term created while a pass finishes its taxonomy is no longer skipped
  • Reset WPML: a request that runs during the reset can no longer re-create WPML's tables and settings
  • The pencil of a duplicated post opens the WordPress editor again when the translation editor is the WordPress editor
  • Translate Everything cost estimates no longer count an item whose only missing translation is in a paused language
  • Block Language Switcher: the keyboard-navigation script is loaded as a script, not stored in the block markup, so sites with DISALLOW_UNFILTERED_HTML no longer show it as text
  • Automatic translation downloads no longer fail for content whose earlier translation was deleted while the site still remembered it: the translation is created again, and one failed job does not affect the others
  • Settings search: the "Theme and plugins localization" entry scrolls to the Localization options on Compatibility
  • A translatable taxonomy's default term is no longer rewritten on every language switch; new posts get the default term of their own language

Версия 5.1.0

WPML 5.1 lets Translate Everything Automatically run on any translation engine, bills automatic translation in words, and fixes issues reported on 5.0, including on multisite networks, Blog accounts and large stores.

Translate Everything Automatically on any engine

  • Translate Everything Automatically now works with DeepL, Google Translate and Microsoft Translator as well as PTC; the engine decides the price, pay once per page with PTC or per word with the other engines, and the Translation Dashboard shows the engine and its pricing before you turn it on.
  • A site running Translate Everything Automatically on another engine can switch to PTC in place from the Translation Dashboard, without turning translation off; the switch applies to new and changed content.
  • On PTC without a site description, the Translate Everything Automatically box stays on screen with its start button disabled until you add the description, and adding it enables the button without a reload.
  • WPML → Settings → AI Translation shows one recommendation per engine, and the WPML 5 upgrade notice no longer asks for PTC before Translate Everything Automatically can be turned on.

Words instead of credits

  • Automatic translation is billed and shown in words everywhere: the AI Translation billing page in WPML, the words page on your wpml.org account, and the estimates on the Translation Dashboard.
  • Word counts for strings and string packages now match what the bill counts, and stored counts are recalculated on update.
  • When the billing service cannot be reached, WPML says so instead of showing a zero balance, and the Settings page says which setting was not saved.

Updating WPML and registering your site

  • The "WPML Update is Incomplete" notice names the plugins that stopped loading and links to Activate & Update.
  • Notices about a missing site key, a configuration error or missing requirements are dismissed per administrator instead of for the whole site, and the site-key notice comes back on Activate & Update.
  • A Blog account sees the plugins its plan does not include as rows it cannot download, with an offer to upgrade, instead of nothing.
  • Upgrading a Blog account to CMS no longer causes a fatal error on the first load of Translations.
  • Switching the update channel on Plugins → Add New → Commercial refreshes the list and installs nothing by itself.
  • Database updates that were interrupted are resumed instead of staying stuck, and the update no longer flushes the object cache on every front-end request.
  • A fatal error no longer occurs when the host disables ini_get_all() or set_time_limit(), after a move from a host without zlib, or when a plugin in your plan has no download available.

Translation Dashboard, jobs and editors

  • Step 2 "Duplicate" no longer replaces an existing translation silently; the Translation Dashboard says what it skipped.
  • Saving a translated post in the WordPress editor keeps its Advanced Translation Editor job, so opening the editor again creates no replacement job and does not rewind the status.
  • Translation Jobs offers "Edit translation" on completed post jobs, and the spinner stays until the editor opens.
  • A stale translation whose post no longer exists is removed when its review link is built and shows as not translated.
  • Two saves of the same post at the same time no longer leave a translation job without its content.
  • When our translation system cannot be reached, Retry says so in the dialog instead of staying silent, and a delivery refused during an outage is accepted once the system is back.
  • New translators default to the Contributor role and translation managers to Editor.
  • After a site moves to a new address and starts fresh with automatic translation, the translation jobs of the old address are cancelled instead of being delivered to the new site.
  • The setup wizard no longer builds a word count it never shows, so it is lighter on large sites, and its address sends an already configured site to the Translation Dashboard.
  • "Switch to PTC instead" opens its window centred.

Languages, URLs and links

  • Changing the default language in domain-per-language mode keeps a domain for the language that stops being the default.
  • A language you are removing can no longer be set as the default in the same save.
  • Trashing a translation of the static front page no longer resets Settings → Reading, and that language's home shows the default-language page instead of a 404.
  • After the root page is deleted, the URL format section saves again and a notice tells every translation manager once.
  • Converted internal links to a draft page no longer lead to a 404, and a link to a deleted page is hidden only when the page is shown, never saved into the content.
  • The language folder stays out of .htaccess, and REST URLs on plain permalinks with languages in directories keep working.
  • Terms of a taxonomy whose name is only digits are handled like any other taxonomy: Translate Everything Automatically translates them, so they use words, they appear in the Translation Dashboard, and they follow duplication, hierarchy sync, Sticky Links and "display as translated" counts.

Faster on large sites

  • Non-translatable taxonomies no longer run one count query per term on every request; their term counts are shown across all languages, as in WPML 4.9, until a language-aware count returns in a later release.
  • The taxonomy-label check runs one query for all taxonomies instead of two per taxonomy on every admin page.
  • The author-language query with "display as translated" is fast again for authors with many posts.
  • Admin pages load less CSS, and the browser language redirect script is 6 KB instead of 172 KB.

Support and repair tools

  • Each repair tool has its own Support page, and a tool whose plugin is not installed shows an install notice with a link to Activate & Update.
  • The repair tools work for a user with the WPML support capability, not only for administrators.
  • "Assign status to duplicates" and "Remove ghost entries" no longer mark a genuine translation as a duplicate or delete the group's original.
  • The Support pages read the server's answer before saying "Done", and the post type repair reports the changes the database refused.
  • Running the activation again keeps the element type column at its full width.
  • The XML configuration screen reads "Never" when the configuration index was never fetched.
  • System information, the debug report and the support report show the site key masked.

Page builders and images in translations

  • WPML's own page builder integration now loads even when the old standalone WPML Page Builders plugin is still active, so its fixes reach those sites and you can deactivate the standalone plugin.
  • Images referenced by a relative URL, or linked from an image, are replaced by their translations in Divi, Enfold and block backgrounds.
  • Clearing the Elementor cache after a translation touches only the translated template's CSS.
  • No page builder warning appears for a translation made in the WordPress editor with no open job.
  • Elementor custom fonts load on secondary-language domains without a browser error.

Also in this release

  • The Translate Everything Automatically offer for new content types closes after "Review cost and include".
  • The custom language dialog can be closed with Escape or a click outside it, and the setup wizard puts the focus on each step.
  • Resetting WPML can no longer re-create part of its settings halfway through the reset.

Security

  • This release includes security hardening.

Версия 5.0.2

This release fixes more issues some sites ran into after updating to WPML 5.0, including database errors and login timeouts on multisite networks, and makes the download smaller.

Updating to WPML 5.0

  • Multisite networks no longer log "Unknown column 'l.country'" database errors, or time out at login, while their sites are still being updated to WPML 5.0 one by one.
  • After an update, browsers load WPML's new scripts and styles instead of cached copies from the previous version.

Translate Everything Automatically

  • Translate Everything Automatically no longer sends a draft for translation before you save it again.

Also in this release

  • A page request that names no post type no longer causes a fatal error.
  • A malformed string-package setting left by a page builder no longer causes a fatal error.
  • The root page setting accepts only published pages; its "HTML file" field now says which files it accepts and rejects the rest.
  • The download is smaller, 17.4 MB instead of 22.6 MB, because packages no longer include .po translation source files; your translations are unaffected.

Версия 5.0.1

This release fixes issues some sites ran into after updating to WPML 5.0, including a fatal error on sites whose database table prefix starts with a digit and an update that would get stuck.

Updating to WPML 5.0

  • Sites whose database table prefix starts with a digit no longer get a fatal error on the front end and on the Custom Fields Translation screen after updating to WPML 5.0, and the “could not save” notice that came with it clears itself once your settings save again.
  • Updating WPML from 4.9.x to 5.0 from the Commercial tab of the Add Plugin screen no longer spins endlessly without finishing.

Translation Dashboard and setup wizard

  • The Translation Dashboard no longer sends taxonomy terms to every language when you have chosen specific languages and reviewed the cost.
  • The setup wizard's "Calculate Translation Costs" step no longer shows 0 words with a disabled Continue button until you refresh the page.

Translation settings and jobs

  • Saving translation settings on a site without the Advanced Translation Editor no longer stores an invalid editor value that crashed every page in wp-admin.
  • Translation jobs no longer show an invalid deadline when none was set.

Also in this release

  • A translated product category whose slug matched another term in the original language no longer redirects visitors to the wrong page.

A redesigned WPML admin

  • WPML now has one menu: Translations, Settings, Support, Activate & Update, and AI Translation Billing when automatic translation is set up.
  • All settings live on one Settings page, with a search box that jumps to the section holding a setting.
  • Links and bookmarks to the old WPML admin pages redirect to their new places.
  • String Translation and Media Translation are tabs under Translations; Sticky Links, CMS Navigation and Export and Import sit under an Add-ons group.

Languages are now language and country pairs

  • Languages are set up as language and country pairs, with regional variants such as Spanish (Mexico).
  • You can add custom languages, upload your own SVG flags, and edit language labels in one place.
  • When you add a language that shares a name with one already active, WPML adds the country to the new language's name, so you see Spanish and Spanish (Mexico).
  • A regional language you add is ready for automatic translation without any mapping step; where the engine has no regional variant, WPML translates it as the base language.
  • Custom languages that cannot be translated automatically are labelled "Manual translation only".
  • Existing sites are updated automatically; your languages, URLs and settings carry over.

Translate Everything Automatically runs in the background

  • Once Translate Everything Automatically is on, WPML keeps sending and receiving translations with no browser tab open.
  • Background translation needs a site our translation system can reach from the internet; on a private or password-protected site, WPML tells you to keep the page open, as before.
  • Content written in any of the site's languages is translated into all the others, not only content in the default language.
  • You can set a cut-off date per post type so content published or edited before it is left untranslated, and adjust it later without turning Translate Everything Automatically off.
  • The setup wizard and the Translation Dashboard show what will be translated per content type, the word count, and the total cost before you turn Translate Everything Automatically on.
  • You can turn Translate Everything Automatically on from the Translation Dashboard without sending a test translation first.
  • Adding a language picks up background translation for that language. Making a post type translatable opens the cost table so you choose what to include before anything is translated.

Pay once per page and language

  • With Translate Everything Automatically on PTC, each page translated after you turn it on is billed once per language, and later edits are free until the content grows past what you already paid for.
  • Content that was translated before you switched Translate Everything Automatically on counts as done and is not billed again.
  • Translation credits are now called words across WPML, and WPML shows the words it will charge before you send.

Taxonomies are translated like posts

  • The Translation Dashboard has a Taxonomies section for sending categories, tags and custom taxonomy terms for translation.
  • Taxonomy labels can be translated from the Translation Dashboard alongside the terms themselves.
  • Under Translate Everything Automatically, new and edited terms are queued automatically and re-translated when they change.
  • Term descriptions and SEO fields from Yoast SEO and Rank Math are included in term translation jobs.

Translation engines

  • PTC, WPML's own AI translation engine, is the recommended engine. DeepL, Google and Microsoft remain available and are labelled "Legacy".
  • Translate Everything Automatically needs PTC and a site description. If your site uses a legacy engine, switch to PTC from the Translation Dashboard in one dialog before turning it on.
  • After switching to PTC, new translations are published without review by default; with a legacy engine they wait for your review by default.
  • The Improve Translations tab under Translations suggests fixes based on the edits you keep making and applies the ones you accept to future translations, with a badge when new suggestions are waiting. Available with PTC only.

Also in 5.0

  • WPML 5.0 is tested on PHP 8.5, including its bundled libraries.
  • Translators can open any translation in a language pair assigned to them, without being assigned the job first.
  • The Translation Dashboard now flags categories and tags that changed after they were translated, alongside posts.

Security

  • This release includes a number of security hardenings, including one reported by Wordfence, whose collaboration we are grateful for.

Версия 5.0.0-b.1 beta

Translate Everything Automatically

  • Translate Everything Automatically is the default translation method and can be enabled from the setup wizard.
  • You can now choose a cutoff date for supported post types, only content created on or after that date will be included in Translate Everything Automatically; content created before it will not be translated.
  • You can now see the cost of translation per post, and the total cost, before enabling Translate Everything Automatically.
  • Translate Everything Automatically works only with the PTC engine. Existing sites are not affected and can continue using the Legacy engines (DeepL, Microsoft, Google).
  • Once enabled, Translate Everything Automatically runs in the background, the browser no longer needs to stay open.
  • Taxonomies and terms are now included in the Translate Everything Automatically process.
  • Custom fields are included by default in the Translate Everything Automatically process.

Pay Once per Post & Language

  • When Translate Everything Automatically (TEA) is active, the site is billed once per page per language. Subsequent edits to the same content are free until the content exceeds its previously paid-for length.
  • This pricing applies only when Translate Everything Automatically is used with PTC (Private Translation Cloud), WPML's own AI translation engine.

Credits to Words Terminology Change

  • The GUI now displays the actual word count for each language, and the number of words charged by the translation engine.

Translation Management Dashboard

  • New section in the Translation Dashboard for Taxonomies, designed so automatic translation can be used the same way as for posts.
  • The Translation Status section now displays details on failed translations, including a debug report and resolution steps.
  • Previously, you had to send one or two pieces of content for a test translation before you could enable Translate Everything Automatically. Now you can activate it directly from the Dashboard, without that test step.

Translation Engine

  • PTC (Private Translation Cloud), WPML's own AI translation engine, is now the recommended engine. The other three DeepL, Google, and Microsoft remain available but are labeled "Legacy."
  • Review mode defaults: "No Review" is now the default review mode when PTC is enabled. For Legacy engines, the default is now "Review Before Publish."

Country Pair Configuration in Language Editing

  • New language settings with country-pair mapping.
  • Improved support for creating custom languages.
  • Displays Manual translation label for custom languages that are not mapped to a language supported by automatic translation

Translation Flow Improvements

  • Supported languages are now automatically mapped, with a fallback to the base language code. For example, if a site has en-AU, the Advanced Translation Editor automatically falls back to general English and translates the content.
  • Translators with supported language pairs can translate or take over any translation, regardless of assignment. Accessing an in-progress translation displays a takeover notice.

Improve Translations

  • PTC (Private Translation Cloud), WPML's own AI translation engine, learns how you like your content translated. It automatically spots the corrections you keep making by hand. glossary terms, links, regional language variants, formality and turns them into one-time fixes.
  • Accept a suggestion once, and PTC applies it across every current and future translation for that language pair, so you never have to make the same edit twice.
  • A new Improve Translations tab under Translations surfaces suggestions, backed by a dashboard notice, an in-editor banner, and an email notification, so nothing slips by.
  • Available with the PTC engine only.

Revamped, Distraction-Free Admin Interface

  • Single entry point for settings, with a usable search filter.
  • UI/UX updates to WPML's navigation (main and secondary levels), and improved cross-linking between sections.
  • Translation Dashboard enhancements, including related views (Queue, Jobs, String Translation, etc.).
  • Translation Dashboard improvements for clearer status indicators and next-step guidance.
  • Regrouping of settings for better logical organization.
  • Revised labels and descriptions for previously unclear settings.

Версия 4.9.5

Compatibility

  • WordPress 7.0 — Fixed the Classic Translation Editor field layout, the post-language-change modal, and the language switcher block so they render correctly on WordPress 7.0.
  • PHP 8.4 and 8.5 — Cleaned up deprecation notices and silent warnings so sites on the latest PHP versions stay clean in their error logs.
  • Elementor — Strings sent to the Advanced Translation Editor no longer include inactive fields.

Moving and re-registering a site

  • When you move a site to a new domain, WPML now applies the Copy with migration code option automatically, dismisses stale migration notices the moment the URL changes, and shows the migration banner as soon as the alias domain is reset.
  • Restored the explanation shown when the alias domain is automatically reset, and re-enabled the manual alias-domain entry on the Troubleshooting page so site registration is reachable again on sites upgrading from 4.9.4.
  • Stale cloned site flags are now cleared on upgrade so a partially-completed migration wizard no longer blocks subsequent runs.
  • Redesigned the refund / unregister / replace-site-key notice as a clearer three-card layout, making it easier to remove WPML from a site you no longer use.

Advanced Translation Editor

  • Slug changes made in the Advanced Translation Editor are now correctly saved back to the translated post.
  • The lock-contention response is now a proper HTTP 423 status instead of HTTP 500, so retries from our translation system work correctly.
  • Translation jobs are now sent in priority order — items at the top of your queue are translated first.
  • Translations downloaded from the Advanced Translation Editor now appear in the language switcher immediately, without needing a cache flush.
  • Translation sync error screens now include support instructions and direct links to the relevant help articles.
  • The Translation Management job log was rebuilt on a new storage backend with much richer logging, making it easier to diagnose translation issues.

Translation Management dashboard

  • The post edit screen is significantly faster on sites with orphan posts created in secondary languages — the per-render orphan-translations check has been replaced with a much lighter query, so editing posts in Gutenberg no longer pauses on large sites.
  • Removed unused legacy tracking code and a duplicate JavaScript global from the front of the admin.

URLs, slugs, language switcher

  • Plain-URL to permalink conversion now preserves the port number.
  • The translated URL is generated the first time when translating with the native WordPress editor — no more translate twice to see the slug.
  • Fixed translation of links at the bottom of toolset archive pages.
  • An empty translation ID no longer accidentally creates a stray post during in-progress Classic Editor translations.
  • Private posts no longer get redirected to a media post when they share a slug.
  • Private posts now appear on the secondary-language blog page.
  • Future-status posts now show the language switcher again.
  • Language switcher block: fixed flag size in the preview area, and added explicit width and height attributes on flag images for better Core Web Vitals.

Menus, caches, and miscellaneous

  • Sites running an object cache no longer lose translation menu items after Sync Menus — the term cache is now invalidated correctly.
  • ACF Gallery Block: duplicating a page now duplicates all images, not just the first one.
  • Cleared a false-positive SQL-injection warning from third-party security scanners.

Версия 4.9.4

WPML 4.9.4 brings full compatibility with WordPress 7.0, addressing several changes to the block editor and core functionality introduced in this release.

WordPress 7.0 Compatibility

  • The block editor now stays in modern iframe mode on WPML-enabled sites. WordPress 7.0 makes the fully iframe-based editor the new standard. On sites running an older version of WPML, the editor would silently revert to legacy mode whenever WPML was active. The Language Switcher and Navigation Language Switcher blocks have been updated to fully support Block API version 3, keeping the editor in modern mode as expected.
  • Navigation Language Switcher "open on click" now works correctly on WordPress 7.0. WordPress 7.0 changed how the Navigation block stores this setting. WPML now reads the updated value correctly, so submenus respect the behaviour you configured.
  • New WordPress 7.0 block content is now translatable. Three elements introduced or restructured in WordPress 7.0 were not appearing in the WPML translation editor. All three are now fully translatable: Icon block accessibility labels (aria-label), Navigation overlay close button text, and Tab block labels.
  • Fixed block editor warnings and styling issues on WordPress 7.0. WPML's internal code for registering block assets has been updated to use current WordPress APIs. Block descriptions are now plain strings as WordPress 7.0 requires, and CSS loads correctly inside the iframe editor. All changes are backward compatible to WordPress 6.3.
  • Fixed PHP deprecation notices in server logs. A PHP function deprecated in WordPress 7.0 has been replaced with the modern equivalent throughout WPML's codebase.

Other Fixes

  • Fixed a blank white screen on the WPML Settings and Translation Dashboard pages in wp-admin.
  • Fixed slow loading on the Menu Sync page.

Версия 4.9.3

WPML 4.9.3 brings a wide range of fixes and improvements — from site migration and string translation to performance, admin usability, and editor compatibility.

Features

  • New filter hook for developers to return translated user meta values WPML now intercepts calls to get_user_meta() and returns the translated value for the current language. This is useful when displaying user profile fields (e.g. job title, bio) on multilingual sites. To enable this behaviour, add the following to your theme or plugin:
    add_filter( 'wpml_translate_get_user_meta', '__return_true' );
  • New filter hook to globally disable all WPML email notifications WPML sends automatic emails from several internal components (translation job assignments, overdue job reports, batch summaries, etc.). Previously there was no official way to suppress them — developers had to rely on workarounds inspecting the call stack. This new hook provides a single, supported way to disable all WPML emails at once:
    add_filter( 'wpml_send_email_notification', '__return_false' );
Or selectively, based on email type and recipient:
    add_filter( 'wpml_send_email_notification', function( $send, $email_type, $recipient ) {
        if ( $email_type === 'overdue_jobs_report' ) {
            return false;
        }
        return $send;
    }, 10, 3 );
This is particularly useful on staging or development environments where you want to prevent emails from reaching real users.

Improvements

Migration and Setup

  • Safer and More Reliable Migration Process WPML now makes it safer and easier to move or copy a site from one domain to another. If something goes wrong during the migration, the wizard stays visible so users can retry, with clearer messages, better logging, and guidance on where to find the migration code. WPML also automatically fixes misconfigured alias domains, removes the unsafe "Move" option, and improves performance for sites using the Classic Translation Editor.
  • Added a new option to reset the WPML Setup Wizard when it gets into a corrupted state.
  • WPML now notifies our translation system when a site key is unregistered.

Performance

  • Reduced redundant language filtering calls on sites with many ACF fields for better performance.
  • Removed outdated WP Super Cache integration code that was no longer needed.

Admin and User Experience

  • Unlocked WPML settings are now visually indicated in the admin interface.
  • String Translation dashboard filters now show labels and default to Frontend strings.
  • Clarified how Media Translation settings affect images and featured images.
  • The notification about jobs that cannot be finished now links directly to the Translation Dashboard.

Fixes

  • Some posts containing Base64-encoded data were not being sent for translation In a previous release, we started blocking some posts because they contained Base64-encoded data, to prevent issues during the translation process. However, this also blocked some posts that could actually be translated, or where the Base64 content could simply be ignored. We've updated how WPML handles Base64-encoded content — posts that can be safely translated are no longer blocked. A more precise validation approach is planned for an upcoming release.
